The idea of buying refurbished medical equipment might sound strange to some people, but when you consider the expense of these massive pieces of equipment and how durable many of them are, it makes sense that they should continue serving a purpose after the original owner moves on.  Refurbished medical equipment also helps many hospitals, clinics, rehabilitation centers and caregivers save money and cut healthcare costs.  Some items like wheelchairs and EKG machines could be the perfect pieces to purchase used.  And refurbished medical equipment isn't just used and resold ' it is restored to its original setting and should work like new.

Before buying any refurbished medical equipment, however, there are some things you should check out first.  It is important to be completely sure that the equipment has only been gently used and does not have any defects.  Refurbished medical equipment should not have any signs of misuse such as worn out components, scuff marks and other signs that it has seen better days.  There are many factors to look for in a good vendor as well, such as BBB Accreditation, DME Accreditation, and/or DotMed certification (for online sellers). These organizations hold their members to very high standards.

While there are many refurbished medical equipment items that you should feel completely confident in buying used, there are some things that you might be better off buying new.  Things like oxygen tanks and peripherals are life-dependant so you don't want to take any chances.  Some sellers offer both new and used equipment, though, so if you find a good source of refurbished equipment it's possible that you can find all the new equipment you need with them as well.

There's no reason to look down on refurbished medical equipment.  Many patients rely on it every day with dependable results.
